Pastor Carl Bennett leads the Corinth Christian Fellowship congregation in Quincy, FL. He is a Bible Believing preacher of the Gospel and preaches “all the counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). Since, 1992, he served as the Associate Pastor of several churches before becoming interim pastor of Corinth Christion Fellowship in February 2016. He became pastor at Corinth Christian Fellowship in February 2017. His ministry objective is to lead the people of God to a greater knowledge of and deeper relationship with the Lord by feeding them the Word of God and shepherding their hearts, to better equip the saints to accomplish His work and purposes and to share with the unsaved how to find real life and true freedom in Jesus Christ.
The Corinth Christian Fellowship, Inc. was organized under the leadership of Reverend Charles J. Scriven after being approached by several members he had previously pastored. Upon approval from his spouse, Mrs. Jeanetta, Scriven, he accepted our plea. We secured the conference room at Comfort Inn and Suites, 215 Commerce Blvd., Midway, Florida, our first fellowship service on June 7, 2009. The membership of eight rallied around Pastor’s vision of studying scripture, giving our tithes and offerings, and helping others in need.
We were taught bible basics and learned that, in many instances, we were misinterpreting scripture. Primarily, we learned that some of what we heard or were taught was not scriptural, was based on our 21st century thinking, and was never the intent of the first century writers. We learned to have an open mind and to see the scriptures through the writers, their flaws as men, the social mores, and the economic and political climate of those times.
As we grew, we delved into the historicity of scripture, events that impacted the context of scripture and how the bible came to be. We learned that it was never written for the purpose of being a book to 21st century believers but that the writings were for those of that time; it was not until much later that the canonical writings were compiled into the King James Bible.
During our final years under Pastor Scriven, we explored the meaning of the Lord’s Supper, how it was different from the Passover Meal and how some were disrespectful when they came together to fellowship and observe the Eucharist. We learned how certain beliefs still exist today about Jesus’ presence during this sacrament. Our Protestant belief is that we come to the Lord’s Supper to remember what he did for us at Calvary.
As were grew spiritually, we also became involved with community organizations; feeding the homeless at the shelter, awarding scholarships, donating to FAMU, establishing a Living Benefit Fund, a Poor Fund, a Food Pantry, and rallying against the efforts to bring slots into the county. In 2014, our membership increased by three and included two members in Jacksonville – (one since deceased); two additional members joined in 2015. Four of our founding members are now joined by seven new members who are all committed to God’s work of the church.
Pastor Scriven resigned in February 2016 and God blessed us with an interim, Pastor Carl Bennett, until he accepted the role of pastor in February 2017. Under his leadership, we continue to prosper as his vision is to provide biblical preaching that glorifies God and promotes spiritual growth. He, too, believes in evangelism and discipleship, as well as, helping others in the community through our tithes and offerings.
Under Pastor Bennett’s leadership, in March 2019, we secured a location at 306 E. Jefferson St., Quincy. As we go forward, our goal is to continue God’s work and impact the community where there are families, the unchurched, and sinners who have never heard of the grace of God. Our belief is that in spite of everything that goes on the world today, we fully understand that “…..the word of our God will stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8).
GOD GETS ALL THE GLORY FOR ALL HE HAS DONE FOR THE CORINTH CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP AND WHAT HE WILL CONTINUE TO DO.
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness; to give it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every organization of human origin, to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to study diligently the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ, and faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.
We further engage to watch over; to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every good word and work; to guard each other’s reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other’s joys, and with tender sympathy bear one another’s burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.
When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s word.
